Best RTX 4060 Ti 8GB Graphics Cards

Best 4060 Ti GPUs

Introduction

NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 Ti 8GB is a controversial GPU that seeks to target the 1080p and 1440p gaming market, offering decent performance at both of these resolutions. However, due to the questionable MSRP of the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB and the variety of AIB cards that consumers have access to, picking out the best value-proposition option can be difficult, so how do you make a decision?

To determine which is the best RTX 4060 Ti 8GB graphics cards, we’ve put together this buyers guide, which covers a range of 4060 Ti 8GB options. We’ve considered a number of different factors when testing and analysing each GPU, such as size, gaming performance, thermal capability, aesthetic, and pricing.

Our Recommendation: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Founders Edition

After testing a number of different RTX 4060 Ti graphics cards, the most standout option is NVIDIA’s Founders Edition. Due to the questionable value-proposition of the RTX 4060 Ti as a whole, it makes little sense to pick a card that doesn’t come in at MSRP. The RTX 4060 Ti has a strange price point overall, but the Founders Edition offers one that we feel the vast majority of consumers will be comfortable with.

Consumers can expect decent 1440p gaming performance from the 4060 Ti Founders, along with reasonable thermal capability too.

NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 Ti 8GB Founders Edition serves as a reference point of performance, and then AIB partners take this card and put on their own shrouds, add better cooling, and sometimes even a slight overclock. Whilst these AIBs on paper are better, they are also much more expensive by comparison. Which is why the Founders Edition card is the best option for the price conscious buyer.

While the Founders Edition RTX 4060 Ti 8GB is the superior option, its downfall does lie in the simplicity of the card. There isn’t much here in terms of aesthetic, and cooling is definitely better with AIB cards that offer more fans or chunkier heatsinks. But despite this, if you are looking to pick up and RTX 4060 Ti 8GB card, the Founders Edition is the one that we’d recommend based on the lower price point versus the rest of the market.

MSI’s Gaming X Trio variant of the RTX 4060 Ti is one of the more popular options based on its triple-fan and familiar but sleek design that we’re always excited to see. The Gaming Trio is one of my favourite lines that they offer, with each card sporting three fans, which will aid thermals, and some minimalist RGB in the form of a few strips that go diagonally across the card.

MSI always do an excellent job on the aesthetic of their cards. Even the cheaper options such as the Ventus line, look great, and the Gaming Trio is definitely not an exception when it comes to a masterful design. I’m a huge fan of the RGB, it isn’t too overboard, but still offers some nice customisation for those that like to play around with lighting and colours.

Unfortunately, this AIB does come in with a rather hefty price tag. The RTX 4060 Ti 8GB is already pretty controversial when it comes to pricing, so seeing a $50 bump above MSRP isn’t ideal. But if you’re willing to forgive the leap in price, the Gaming X Trio RTX 4060 Ti 8GB does offer some nice aesthetics while ensuring that your card stays cool even when under load.

Gigabyte’s Gaming OC variants have always impressed us when it comes to their AIB cards, and the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB has definitely delivered. We’ve always been a big fan of the design of these cards. Gigabyte provide an industrial style shroud that features three fans, perfect for keeping your GPU nice and cool, whilst adding to the overall airflow of the system.

This particular OC model offers a nice overclock to the boost speed. Whilst this won’t offer insane levels of performance bonuses, consumers will see some extra frames in some of their favourite titles. Normally the increased boost clock speed would incur a massive surge in cost as well, but Gigabyte are offering this card up for a price tag very close to MSRP.

While Gigabyte’s Gaming OC model does seem like a tantalising offer, the Eagle variant of the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB can actually be found for a bit cheaper. We’d urge most consumers to look at this option above the Gaming OC version, just to save some money on this already strangely priced GPU.

The final RTX 4060 Ti 8GB in this roundup, is the Spider Man edition of the Zotac Twin Edge OC. Although this particular model doesn’t have a very catchy name, the unique and sleek design definitely caught our attention. We’re a big fan of the Spider Man edition of the new RTX 4000 series cards, as they offer some unique flair that isn’t often found with other GPUs. We’re so used to the typical industrial look found on most graphics cards, so this model is a refreshing change to a very common look.

Aside from the design, the Zotac Twin Edge OC 4060 Ti is a dual-fan card utilising Zotac’s IceStorm 2.0 cooling, which should aid with thermals. Although the dual-fans could hinder this to a degree. Zotac have offered a slight overclock to the boost speed, which can improve framerates in certain games, but only by a small amount. This card is also a very small model as well, coming in at 225mm in length which shouldn’t restrict case choices.

Although I do like the Spider-Man design, I feel that based on the price of this graphics card, that Zotac could have gone the extra mile to engrave the design on the backplate. Users do get extra customisability because the plate is magnetised, but it just feels cheap. I’d argue that this card is a decent GPU, but the price is definitely a turn-off if you’re looking for the best value option.

How We Tested the Best RTX 4060 Ti Graphics Cards

To determine which RTX 4060 Ti 8GB is the best graphics card, our in-house benchmarker Harry Coleman has put all of these GPUs through a range of tests. This involves putting them through a plethora of gaming benchmarks in the latest and greatest triple A titles, along with Esports games too. We do this while comparing them against NVIDIA and AMD’s newer and older GPU ranges to see how they fare in the current market. There are also a number of factors that we take into consideration when testing, such as:

  • Gaming Performance
  • Thermal Capability
  • GPU Size
  • Power Efficiency
  • Aesthetic
  • Pricing

How Does the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB Perform?

After delving into a range of different 4060 Ti 8GB graphics cards, you’re probably wondering what performance to expect from this GPU. We’ve got our hands on a range of cards that we’ve put though the wringer to see how the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB copes in modern triple A games, and popular Esports titles.

Hogwarts Legacy

In Hogwarts Legacy at 1080p High settings, we were pretty happy with performance metrics. The RTX 4060 Ti compares very well against graphics cards that align similarly when it comes to specs. The 4060 Ti was able to outperform AMD’s RX 6750 XT which is also a very strong performer in 1080p and 1440p benchmarks. Hogwarts Legacy can be a pretty demanding title, so it was great to see that the 4060 Ti could keep up in this modern game.

Spider-Man Miles Morales

In Spider-Man Miles Morales, we bumped the resolution up to 1440p to see where performance would lie when improved visual fidelity was thrown into the mix. For the most part, the RTX 4060 Ti held up very well. It seems that this card compares pretty well to an RTX 3070, with the 4060 Ti offering up an average framerate 114FPS which is quite strong. DLSS pushes framerates even further, with the 4060 Ti surging up to 127 with DLSS 3 enabled. Again, we were super happy here, and it is clear that the 4060 Ti is a strong performer at 1440p as well as 1080p.

Apex Legends

And finally, in Apex Legends at 1080p we saw extremely strong performance from the RTX 4060 Ti. This GPU was able to output around 195FPS on average which is very high. Consumers that have displays with high refresh rates will be able to enjoy buttery smooth gameplay with minimal dips and stutters. Apex Legends will benefit from solid refresh rates, giving you more of an edge against the competition.

Frequently Asked Questions

RR-Question-Mark New

How Much VRAM Do I Need for Gaming?

As a general rule of thumb, most games won’t need more than 8GB of VRAM for games. However, over the next couple years, it is quite likely we’ll see demands for 10GB and 12GB as games become more intensive.

RR-Question-Mark New

Is 1440p or 1080p Better for the RTX 4060 Ti?

Either of these resolutions are a great bet. 1080p will always perform better on this GPU because the performance overhead is much lower, but the 4060 Ti is a strong competitor when it comes to 1440p gaming.

RR-Question-Mark New

Should I Use DLSS?

You don’t have to, but we recommend it where possible. DLSS can massively improve performance at higher resolutions, with a relatively low visual fidelity cost. However, there are certain titles where DLSS may cause latency, so this is entirely your preference.

RR-Question-Mark New

Can the RTX 4060 Ti Handle Ray-Tracing?

Unfortunately not. The 4060 Ti has a relatively low RT core count, and because of the performance overhead, this card isn’t really designed for Ray-Tracing. We’d recommend looking at alternative options if you plan on playing Ray-Traced games.

Conclusion

Best RTX 4060 Ti 8GB: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB Founders Edition

NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti Founders Resized

NVIDIA’s Founders Edition is the best 4060 Ti 8GB graphics card, which is the conclusion we’ve come to from our testing. The RTX 4060 Ti 8GB is already in a pretty precarious position versus the rest of the market due to the rise of newer and more tantalising graphics cards that offer a better value-proposition.

For this reason, if you do decide to pick up an RTX 4060 Ti 8GB graphics card, the options that sit closest to MSRP are the ones that we’d recommend, and the Founders Edition is the obvious choice that fits within this prerequisite. Although the AIBs are all solid, the best price is the way to go with this GPU.
