AMD’s Ryzen 7000 CPUs are some of the best options on the market right now, offering excellent performance metrics in a vast range of modern games. AMD’s Ryzen 5 range has been particularly tantalising recently due to a number of price drops in the CPU market, but also for RAM and motherboards too. DDR5 RAM is almost at price parity versus DDR4 for lower-end kits, and there are a range of cheaper motherboards, on the B650 and B650E chipsets, that come in at a very tantalising price point. For those looking to build a reasonably priced gaming PC, Ryzen 7000 might be the way to go.

But why is the 7600 a good option? The 7600 is one of the strongest choices within the Ryzen 7000 range because of its excellent single core metrics versus the price point. This particular CPU is extremely efficient, can handle all three major gaming resolutions when paired up with the right graphics card, and is also pretty cheap for a mid-range CPU. The majority of mid-range options will come in at the $300 mark, such as the 13600K from Intel, which is a lot of money to spend on your CPU, which could be saved and put towards your graphics card.

Looking at specs, the 7600 isn’t overclockable, which is worth noting. However, this does make the price point of the 7600 much more affordable versus the overclockable ‘X’ variants. This CPU comes in with six cores and 12 threads. This does mean that it will be a little bit lacking in multi-core workloads, but if you’re just playing games, this shouldn’t be much of an issue. In terms of boost speeds, the 7600 can boost all the way up to 5.1GHz, which should provide some strong performance within the vast majority of games.

It is worth briefly touching upon the thermals of this CPU. While it isn’t the hottest CPU we’ve encountered within the Ryzen 7000 range, especially when ECO mode is enabled, it can reach some pretty high thermals. It has a max operating temperature of 95 degrees, and we’ve found during testing that the 7600 can reach 80 or more when boosting on all cores. So we’d recommend picking up a strong cooler (preferably liquid if it fits within your budget) to ensure temperatures don’t hit a dangerous level.

Looking at some of the other features of the AM5 platform, you’ll be able to leverage fast USB ports, along with widespread PCI-E 5.0 slots, and high speed DDR5. A massive range of DDR5 motherboards have also received some upgrades when it comes to DDR5 speeds, this will provide a nice boost in some applications and games.

One of the big bonuses of picking up this CPU versus other options, is that it comes bundled with Bethesda‘s brand new game – Starfield. This title is about $70 at retail, and comes entirely free with your CPU purchase, which is a nice little extras for those looking to build a PC or upgrade.
