At Gamescom 2024, ASUS revealed two OLED monitors that offer cutting-edge technology for gamers looking to maximise visual fidelity and smooth gameplay across their favourite titles. These two groundbreaking gaming displays put unprecedented refresh rates within the reach of gamers, offering highly immersive visuals while ensuring blazing-fast latency and response times.

ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDP

The ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDP is a 26.5-inch 1440p OLED monitor with an anti-glare surface and a 480Hz refresh rate. It features DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 connectivity, providing high bandwidth and supporting a significant range of devices. This is the world’s first 480Hz refresh rate OLED display, so gameplay will be ridiculously smooth and responsive.

The ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDP features a slimline chassis with a zero-frame design. The monitor looks sleek and sophisticated while offering some RGB lighting on the angular stand, which will shine on your desk.

With third-generation ROG OLED technology, the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDP provides 20% better imagery than previous generations, considerably clearer text, and better motion clarity thanks to ELMB (extreme low motion blur). This OLED display has inherent advantages, including producing vivid bright colours and deep dark hues and comprehensive coverage of commonly used colour gamuts such as DCI-P3.

ASUS OLED Care+ is a vital feature that protects the OLED panel during prolonged usage. Tools such as pixel cleaning recalibrate the screen if used for multiple hours. Screen saver dims the display during inactivity, and screen move will shift pixel locations to help minimise burn-in.

This monitor also features an AI Assistant, which provides helpful in-game adjustments to improve gameplay experiences. For example, the AI Crosshair adjusts the colour of the crosshair so that it contrasts with the background, making it stand out more. Alternatively, AI Sniper automatically zooms in on the centre of your target for improved aim. These are incredibly handy for those looking to improve how they play in a practice setting.

ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG

The second display ASUS revealed at Gamescom is the ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG. This 26.5-inch display uses a 1440p resolution and clocks in at 360Hz. Much like the previously mentioned ROG Swift, high-refresh QD-OLED displays have been somewhat unheard of until now. The ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG features a glossy coating and provides vibrant and lifelike colours, offering 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.

The ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG has a thin frame to maximise screen real estate and a sturdy pillar and stand that minimises wobble. Those not looking to add a stand to their desk can also VESA mount this monitor to a wall or monitor arm.

Regarding visual fidelity, this QD-OLED monitor offers inky blacks for startling contrast, unparalleled clarity and incredibly dark shadows. Thanks to the glossy screen, readability in rooms with ambient light won’t be an issue, and with HDR switched on, prospective buyers can enjoy glorious highlights in games and media. 250 nits is the typical brightness of the ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG, with peak brightness likely hovering somewhere around the 1000 mark.

The arrival of this monitor will introduce two new perks, the first of which is Dynamic Brightness Boost. This feature ensures that gamers can enjoy high-end luminance at a low-brightness setting. This makes the screen maintain a consistently bright and vibrant image without risking burn-in due to brightness being consistently high.

The second is fine-tuned HDR settings. Users can adjust settings, including colour temperature, brightness, saturation, and contrast, even when the display is in HDR, offering substantial customisation options.

The standout quality of this display is its 360Hz refresh rate. Mainstream graphics cards can reach exceptionally high framerates in competitive Esports-style titles. For this reason, monitors with refresh rates above 144Hz are worth picking up for those looking to enjoy maximum smoothness. With the ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG, visuals are immaculate and responsive, with stuttering and tearing significantly reduced across the board.
