As a general rule of thumb, ASUS products can be pretty expensive. Although they do have product ranges that prioritise the budget consumer, the vast majority of components that you can buy from ASUS do tend to come in at a premium price point. However, on Newegg’s daily deal, their ROG STRIX Z790-H Gaming motherboard is available for $259.99, an all-time low price point.
Z790 boards are the best equipped options on the market, offering overclocking support, and the strongest features within Intel’s 13th-Gen range. This does mean that they can incur a fairly high cost, but today’s daily deal is going against the grain.
Looking at the design of the Z790-H Gaming WiFi, this board comes in with a matte black aesthetic which I’m a big fan of. You’ll find some RGB backlighting on the rear IO heatsink towards the top left of the board, which provides some additional flair. This board isn’t particularly impressive in terms of the design, but it will blend in pretty well with other darker components.
Moving onto features, the Z790-H is very well equipped sporting 16+1 power stages for overclocking. There are other boards that will provide stronger power delivery, but this should be perfectly fine for a light-medium overclock, even on higher-end CPUs. Looking at RAM, the Z790-H sports DDR5 DIMM slots, capable of reaching 7800MHz speeds. If you’ve picked up a particularly strong DDR5 kit, you’ll see some nice boosts in performance when XMP is enabled.
Looking at expansion, consumers can leverage a Gen5 PCI-E slot, ready for the next generation of graphics cards. There’s also a PCI-E 4.0 capable x16 slot too, which will house any PCI Express SSDs you have. In terms of storage, there are four M.2 slots on this motherboard, all of which utilise Gen4 bandwidth. Gen4 drives are pretty cheap at the moment, so you should be able to secure a solid deal, even for high capacity drives.
On the IO front, the Z790-H is very well equipped on the USB front, offering ten ports in total on the rear. On the rear IO you’ll find a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C port, providing 20Gbps speeds. There’s also three USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, and four USB 3.2 Gen1 ports. This should be an ample amount of ports for you to plug in all of your various peripherals and accessories. For networking, you’ll also be able to utilise the 2.5 Gigabit LAN port, or the onboard WiFi 6E for those that prefer a wireless connection.
At $259.99 at the time of writing, this excellent motherboard comes in at a great price point:
