Unboxing MSI’s Limited Edition Call of Duty RTX 5080!

Limited edition GPUs have become something of an MSI speciality this year, and the latest one to land on our desk might just be the boldest yet. The GeForce RTX 5080 16G COD MW4 EDITION OC is a collector’s card built in collaboration with Activision for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and we’ve just cracked it open. Here’s what’s inside.

Before we even get to the card, the box sets the tone. Captain Price and Ghost take pride of place on the front, lifted straight from the game’s cover art, while the back keeps things simple with a shot of the card itself. Lift the lid and Ghost is back, this time solo and looming over the inner packaging in a gorgeous, heavily detailed graphic novel style. Peel away the plain black MSI cover beneath and you’ll find the card and its accessories sitting snugly in foam cut-outs, all wrapped up in protective film. Proper presentation, this.

And then there’s the card. Yellow. Lots of it. MSI has wrapped the shroud in a military-inspired design with yellow rings around each of the three STORMFORCE fans, but the real showstopper is the heatsink, which has been painted yellow from end to end. MSI is billing it as a world first, and peering through the gaps in the shroud, I’m not about to argue… it looks fantastic.

The catch? Well, there isn’t really one. Underneath the paintwork this is still a full-fat RTX 5080, with NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture, 16GB of GDDR7 and a 2700MHz boost clock (2715MHz in Extreme Performance mode via MSI Center). Cooling is handled by MSI’s TRIO FROZR 4 Thermal Design, pairing those STORMFORCE fans with a nickel-plated copper baseplate, while power comes through a single 16-pin connector with an 850W PSU recommended. It’s no faster than a regular RTX 5080, but it’ll still chew through anything you throw at it, Modern Warfare 4 included. Just measure your case first, as at 344mm long this is not a small card.

Flip it over and the backplate steals the show. Ghost’s portrait sits within a transparent section that also reveals the PCB underneath, flanked by the Modern Warfare 4 logo and a set of cut-outs that show off even more of that yellow heatsink. There’s an illuminated Call of Duty logo along the edge too, so anyone peering through your side panel will know exactly what you’ve been up to all weekend.

Last but not least, the GPU support stand gets the Modern Warfare 4 treatment as well. It’s a small yellow-accented cylinder that colour matches the card beautifully, holding up all that weight while looking like it belongs there. Not quite as cute as a Grogu, I’ll admit, but it suits the card perfectly.
