With features like moulded foam cushioning, a steel frame, and six dimensions of adjustability, the SOLO 360 positions itself as a chair that doesn’t just look the part but is engineered to perform. Lastly, the chair comes with five omnidirectional TX3 nylon Casters, designed by ThunderX3 for their chairs, measuring 65mm in diameter.

ThunderX3 SOLO 360 Design

The ThunderX3 SOLO 360 Hybrid Gaming Chair is built with a science‑focused approach to ergonomics, combining durable materials with thoughtful engineering. Its premium leatherette upholstery delivers a plush, high‑end feel and is easier to clean than genuine leather, though it may be more prone to cracking or peeling over time. The fabric is designed to be breathable, helping maintain comfort during long gaming or work sessions. On the front of the seat, there is an embroidered ‘ThunderX3’ text, adding to that high-end impression.

Underneath, a reinforced steel frame provides structural stability, ensuring the chair can withstand daily use without flexing or weakening. The backrest is padded with moulded foam that retains its shape far better than cut foam, offering consistent support even after extended wear. Its ergonomically curved design encourages a natural posture, particularly in the lumbar region, reducing strain on the spine. The headrest features the ThunderX3 logo debossed into the leatherette.

The SOLO 360 offers six dimensions (6D) of adjustability, including backrest angle, seat height, armrest rotation, lateral armrest movement, armrest retraction, and headrest adjustment. This flexibility allows users to fine‑tune the chair to their body and desk setup. The integrated rocking mechanism further enhances comfort by synchronously tilting both the seat and backrest, creating a more dynamic sitting experience. The backrest itself reclines between 90° and 125°, allowing users to sit upright for focus or lean back for relaxation.

Additional design touches include five omnidirectional TX3 nylon casters for mobility, a wide seat base for stability, and a modern aesthetic available in multiple colourways. Together, these elements make the SOLO 360 a hybrid chair that balances gaming flair with professional usability, whilst staying true to their mission to make chairs that support you and look attractive at the same time.

ThunderX3 SOLO 360 Assembly

I’m going to preface this section by saying that I found assembling the ThunderX3 SOLO 360 relatively easy and completed the whole process in roughly 25 minutes.

Upon opening the chair’s parcel, you are greeted with an intuitively packed, disassembled chair. Each part has its own packaging, composed of a mix of plastic, bubble wrap, and cardboard inserts, to keep it safe and protected from damage during shipment, while also helping keep its parcel size footprint down. It’s worth noting that some parts are deceivingly heavy, such as the SYNC4 Multi‑Functional Mechanism, so it’s essential to remove all parts with care and ensure they are fastened appropriately.

After most parts have been removed from the parcel, a box containing the assembly manual and the screw set required to fasten all the parts together remains. The screws come in a multi-compartmented package and are labelled to correspond to the manual’s instructions, helping to alleviate any future confusion. In the accessories box, there is also an Allen key or a Hex key, if you will – a thoughtful inclusion as not everyone has tools readily available.

The chair assembly starts with the seat base, where you attach the armrests, followed by the SYNC4 Multi-Functional Mechanism and the spine piece. Attention then shifts to the base and wheels, which are assembled before the gas lift is slotted into place; the seat structure rests directly on the gas lift. For the backrest, slide it into the spine piece and fasten it using screws. To finish, the headrest slots into the two designated car-seat style holes.

My only feedback is that the Allen key provided in the toolkit feels thin and fiddly and kept falling out of the screw head, so I ended up using my own toolkit to speed up the process.

ThunderX3 SOLO 360 Comfort

The SOLO 360 is a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to overall comfort, unfortunately. On the positive side, the faux leather upholstery feels supple and inviting, and the moulded foam in the backrest retains its shape far better than standard cut foam. This combination ensures your upper and lower backs are well supported, with contours that promote healthy posture during long sessions.

The seat, however, tells a different story. At 12cm thick, it looks substantial on paper, but in practice, the cushioning feels prematurely exhausted. While the frame isn’t noticeable beneath the padding, the seat compresses quickly under weight, creating the sensation of sitting on a surface that has already seen heavy use. This makes extended sitting uncomfortable, particularly for heavier individuals. Lighter users may find the seat more forgiving, as their weight won’t compress the foam as much, allowing them to benefit from the intended support.

Interestingly, reclining transforms the experience. With the ThunderX3 SYNC4 Multi‑Functional Mechanism’s Synchronous Tilt feature, the shift in your centre of mass relieves pressure from the seat cushion. This makes the reclined position noticeably more comfortable and ergonomic, highlighting that the chair’s engineering excels when weight distribution is altered.

Where the SOLO 360 falls short is in lumbar adjustability; the fixed contouring provides some support, but without the option to fine‑tune lumbar positioning, users are locked into a “one size fits all” scenario. For those whose body shape doesn’t align perfectly with the chair’s S-shaped curve, this can lead to discomfort over time.

Features We Like

Retractable and Adjustable Armrests

The SOLO 360 features 3D x 360° armrests that rotate a full 360°, giving you complete freedom to position them as needed. They can also retract, letting you pull the chair closer to your desk, and swivel laterally to provide extra forearm support, which reduces fatigue during long gaming sessions with a keyboard and mouse.

Adjustable car seat-like headrest

This gaming chair features a car seat-style headrest. Better yet, it is sculpted to provide ample support for your head and neck and can be adjusted in height in this familiar, accessible fashion! It’s complementary and functional.

Back Pocket for Non-UK models

Non-UK models come with a convenient seat back pocket, designed to keep your gaming essentials within arm’s reach. Whether it’s your controller, snacks, or a spare headset, this clever storage solution ensures you never miss a moment of gaming action, as everything you need is well within reach.

Now, to address the elephant in the room. Unfortunately, UK models will not come with this back pocket; however, this does allow companies like Overclockers to open the chair up to custom-printed designs via their printing services, allowing you to add your own personal flair.

Backrest and Lumbar Support

The backrest padding uses fully moulded foam, designed to retain its shape even after heavy use. The ThunderX3 SOLO 360 Hybrid Gaming Chair is precision‑moulded with ergonomic contours that balance support and style. The lumbar section is curved to promote and encourage a natural S‑shaped posture, helping your back rest comfortably rather than slipping into stress‑induced positions.

Features We Don’t Like

Backrest not assisted

This because the backrest resitance is weight sensitive, and so its you want to sit up you’ll have to put a little bit of effort into coming forward putting strain on your abs, however, you will not have to constantly apply your own resistance to lean back into the chair, as it holds the angle that you leaned even when you are at rest, putting less overall strain and tension on your back.

Seat Feels Hard to Sit on

After using this chair for 8 hours a day over a week, I noticed a split in comfort: my back feels well‑supported, but the seating surface causes significant discomfort in my lower body. ThunderX3 specifies that the chair uses moulded foam for cushioning. Still, the seat doesn’t disperse weight evenly and compresses under pressure, making prolonged sitting feel like resting on a dense block of cotton.

TX3 65mm Nylon Casters

The caster type is a critical detail, but in this case, it’s not a positive one. Nylon casters are prone to leaving scratch marks on wood or polished flooring, which makes them unsuitable for hard surfaces. They also tend to generate more noise compared to softer alternatives, which can be distracting in a quiet workspace. While they are more durable than rubber casters, that durability comes at the expense of floor protection and acoustic comfort. In practice, these casters are only really suited to low‑pile carpet, limiting their versatility.

Summary

The ThunderX3 SOLO 360 Hybrid Gaming Chair sets out to merge bold gaming aesthetics with ergonomic science, and in many respects, it succeeds. The reinforced steel frame, premium leatherette finish, quick assembly, and versatile 6D armrests showcase a high‑quality build. Its precision‑moulded backrest and adjustable headrest encourage a natural posture, delivering excellent upper and mid‑back support.

Where it falters is sustained upright comfort. Despite a 12cm seat cushion, the padding compresses too quickly, leaving the lower body fatigued – particularly for heavier users. This forces reliance on the otherwise excellent synchronous tilt recline for relief, which shouldn’t be essential for basic comfort. The rigid TX3 nylon casters and fixed lumbar contouring further limit its versatility, making it less suited to hard floors or users who need tailored lumbar support.

Ultimately, the SOLO 360 is a stylish, well‑engineered chair that shines in reclined use and back support, but compromises on seat cushioning and adjustability. It’s best suited to lighter users or those who spend more time reclined than upright. For its premium materials and price point, it offers good value, but it stops short of delivering the all‑day comfort professionals and gamers truly need.
