The stand is shaped like a spade and remains self-contained within the monitor’s footprint. Made of rigid metal, it feels sturdy and well-built. At the centre, a cable pass-through helps route wires neatly for improved management.

The monitor offers many features that scale with the price, but you won’t be able to use them to their full potential, so you’ll be paying a lot for features you can’t use. The one central selling point is that this monitor has a super-fast refresh rate of 500Hz, whereas the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles can only reach 120 frames per second. For console-only use, the premium price doesn’t translate into usable performance.

Lack of USB Type-A ports

Whilst I can appreciate the USB Type-C port that the monitor has for its multifunctionality, this monitor offers no USB Type-A ports. The absence of this specific port is unwelcome, as many peripherals still rely on these ports being available. If your PC also has limited USB Type-A ports, you may find yourself needing adapters or a USB hub to connect essential devices.

Firmware Updates

MSI’s Monitor Firmware Upgrade Guide explains that firmware updates can be performed through the MSI Gaming OSD App or MSI Game Intelligence App, provided the monitor is connected via DisplayPort and a USB Type‑A cable. However, this particular model does not include a USB Type‑A port, meaning the documented process cannot apply.

Instead, MSI has introduced an entirely different update method, referenced on the MAG 272QP QD‑OLED X50 ‘Support’ page, which relies on a separate application with noticeably reduced functionality compared to their standard tools referenced in the guide.
