It’s time to build an awesome 1080p & 1440p Gaming PC Build around the awesome RTX 3060, ready for gaming in 2021!
This build guide is built around the 3060, and Intel’s new i5 11400F, a hugely appealing budget gaming CPU that could be a real winner for Intel, amongst an otherwise weak 11th gen stack.
This future-proofed gaming PC build works well in the latest AAA titles, as we’ll test later, including Valorant, Cyberpunk 2077, Apex Legends, Fortnite & more!
CPU: Intel Core i5 11400F
The i5 11400F is one of the more budget friendly chips in Intel’s new 11th generation CPU stack. 6 cores and 12 threads handle the multi threaded side of things nicely, while a boost clock of up to 4.4GHz saves the blushes of the lower 2.6GHz base clock speed.
It’s not as good as something like AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X, but at a considerably cheaper price point it is not a bad shout!
CPU: Deepcool AS500
Cooling on the CPU is handled by Deepcool’s AS500. This tower air cooler is available with either 1 or 2 included fans, and works well for this system. Keeping temperatures low, while looking good, it is a great addition to the system!
GPU: MSI RTX 3060 Gaming X Trio
At the beating heart of this Gaming PC Build is the GPU choice, and specifically we’ve opted for MSIs RTX 3060 Gaming X Trio. The 3060 is a fantastic card, capable of high frame rate 1080p gaming, with solid legs at 1440p.
Given the huge availability issues being seen in the GPU market, we’re recommending you pick up any well-reviewed 3060 you can find. Any 3060 is better than no 3060 at this point!
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 16GB
The memory in this build is handled by 16GB of Corsair’s Vengeance RGB Pro. With fast speeds available, black and white designs, alongside plenty of built in RGB… you can’t go wrong!
SSD/Storage: XPG S20 1TB
For the storage I’d be lying if I said we didn’t splash out a little! A 1TB RGB M.2 SSD from XPG works really well – coming in at a cheaper price point than the newer Gen 4 drives out there.
Despite this you will still see fast speeds, in the region of 3GB/s, perfect for loading up your favourite titles in record time!
For the storage I’d be lying if I said we didn’t splash out a little!
Keep scrolling for the rest of the components, but remember: we’ve uploaded a video version of this build below!
Motherboard: MSI B560M Mortar
The motherboard choice for any build can be complicated, but we’ve made it simple with the MSI B560M Mortar. The non-overclockable i5 11400F means we don’t need a pricey Z590 board, which is where the B560 chipset comes in.
A nice aesthetic design, solid feature set and killer price point make it a no brainer!
Case: XPG Starker
The case choice for this build might look a touch generic, but the new XPG Starker RGB chassis is a little bit special. With a sleek design, well built construction and modest RGB implementation it is bound to please most PC builders out there. The best though? It’s competitive MSRP.
Who said you couldn’t get some great chassis without breaking the bank!
The starker is impressive, featuring a sleek design, solid build quality and a DASH of RGB
PSU: XPG Pylon 650W
The final component for this PC build is the power supply and XPG have come good with one of their new releases, the ‘Pylon’. As far as branding goes, it is… interesting, but well built, 80+ certified and great value.
On this occasion we’ll look past the ‘interesting’ naming scheme!
Performance & Benchmarking
Awesome stuff – we’ve covered off all the parts in our system and its now time to run some games, about 15 to be precise, to see what kind of performance figures we’re able to achieve! At 1080p we achieved some great frame rate numbers,.
Games tested include: Apex Legends, COD Cold War, COD Warzone, Control, CS:GO, Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, Fortnite, GTA V, Rainbow Six Siege, Valorant, Watch Dogs: Legion & Overwatch!
|GTA V||122 FPS|
|COD Warzone||99 FPS|
|Apex Legends||128 FPS|
|Watch Dogs Legion||77 FPS|
|COD Black Ops Cold War||83 FPS|
|Cyberpunk 2077||61 FPS|

Performance aside, one super important factor with any build is how it looks …right?! This build is a bit of a stunner if I do say so myself, and below is a gallery of some of the awesome stills we pulled from this system – take a look!
