Best Xbox Accessories to Buy in 2022

Xbox Accessories Feature

Introduction

2022 has been a rather quiet year for Xbox. Multiple game delays have left players with very little to sink their teeth into. However, that seems to be changing very soon, with a plethora of games set to release on the platform within the next 12 months. And for that reason, there is no better time to pick up an Xbox Series X or S – especially since stock availability has improved so much since this this time last year.

If you are looking to get some accessories with your shiny new Xbox, then you’re in the right place! We have compiled a list of all the best Xbox accessories into this buyer’s guide, along with the products we would recommend for each category.

What Do You Need?

It may not surprise you that the items included in the box of both the Series X and S boxes are pretty similar. Both consoles are packed with a wireless controller, 2 x AA batteries, a HDMI cable, a mains lead, and a quick start guide. The only difference between the add-ons is that the Series X comes with an ultra high speed HDMI cable, whereas the Series S gets a plain old high speed HDMI cable. Whilst Xbox keeps the components in the box rather simple, the unboxing experience for both consoles feels relatively premium.

With all of the items included, it is enough to start playing right away. However, lots of players will want to address the battery situation as soon as possible. It does seem strange that Xbox still insist on batteries instead of switching to a rechargeable USB connection, but there is a simple solution which we’ll come on to. From an eco standpoint, it is also disappointing to see single use batteries included, especially when PlayStation include rechargeable controllers as standard, and have done for years.

Apart from fixing the charging situation for the controller, there are plenty of other upgrades that can make gaming on your Xbox feel more comfortable than ever. Here are some of the upgrades that we suggest to level up your experience.

Our Recommendations

Controller: Xbox Design Lab

Xbox Design Lab Multiversus

When looking for a controller, there are two key attributes that gamers are looking for, features and customisation. Most developers focus on providing features, but Xbox decided to offer a service for those gamers that want complete control over the appearance of their controller.

Xbox Design Lab allows gamers to create a custom colour scheme for their controller. For the price of a regular Xbox Series controller, players can have a uniquely designed controller that can be shown off to make their friends jealous.

For those wanting extra features, the Elite Series may be a good option. However, it is difficult to recommend over Design Lab as it has been prone to durability issues. Also, it might be worth waiting a couple months for the Elite Design Lab to launch.

Key Features:

  • Custom Colours
  • Personalisation Option
  • Optional Grips and Metallic Buttons
  • Share Button
  • Designed for Xbox

Those of you that have tried taking a console with you to a hotel or relatives house will know how much of a struggle it truly is. And now, these monitors have resolved that issue once and for all.

Charger: Venom Twin Charging Dock

Venom Twin Charging Dock

Due to the Xbox controllers coming with AA batteries in the box, the first upgrade most players will look for is a alternative way to charge their controller. Honestly, it’s baffling as to why the Xbox controllers are not equipped with a rechargeable battery by now. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to replace the outdated AA design for a rechargeable option.

Whilst Xbox have their own battery and USB-C cable available for purchase, third-party options tend to be better value for money. For example, Venom’s Twin Charging Dock allows two controllers to be charged simultaneously on a dock that doubles as a controller stand. The docks are also available in multiple colours, meaning you can match it to the colour of your controllers.

Key Features:

  • USB-C Charging Dock
  • LED Indicators
  • Wireless Controller Connection
  • 2 x 850mAh Battery Packs

Storage: Seagate 1TB Storage Expansion Card

Seagate 1TB Expansion Card

With every passing year, games seem to be only getting bigger. Games are getting so big that installing a couple of big titles can easily eat up all of your console’s capacity. If you’re the type of person that hates clearing out their library every time you want to try something new, buying additional storage is a smart move. But be warned, extra storage that doesn’t hinder performance comes with a hefty price tag.

When choosing an SSD for the Xbox Series consoles, it is important to check they are compatible. To avoid this issue, we suggest sticking to the Seagate Storage Expansion Cards. These cards are specifically designed for the Xbox Series X and S and make installation hassle-free. The compact design slots perfectly into the consoles too, which means no clunky drive sitting next to your new console.
